What This Service Covers

Outlets and switches are the parts of your electrical system you touch every day. We install, replace, and upgrade receptacles and switches across Toronto — adding new outlets where you need them, replacing damaged devices, installing GFCI and AFCI protection, and upgrading to dimmers and smart switches.

When to Replace Outlets & Switches

The signs below do not always mean something is seriously wrong, but they are worth checking out — especially if more than one is present at the same time.

  • Outlets are loose, cracked, or discolored
  • Plugs fall out of outlets on their own
  • Switches feel warm, spark, or crackle when operated
  • Two-prong outlets where you need grounded three-prong
  • You need more outlets in a kitchen, office, or living room
  • You want dimmer or smart-switch control

Outlet & Switch Work We Do

  • Adding new receptacles where none exist
  • GFCI installation in kitchens, baths, and outdoors
  • AFCI protection for bedroom and living area circuits
  • Dimmer and smart-switch installation
  • Replacing damaged or back-stabbed outlets
  • Upgrading two-prong outlets to grounded or GFCI-protected
  • USB and USB-C combination outlets

Safety Considerations

  • GFCI protection is required by current code in kitchens, bathrooms, outdoors, and within 1.5 m of sinks.
  • We never back-stab devices — we loop and tighten screws for a reliable connection.
  • We verify a proper ground is present before installing a three-prong outlet, or install GFCI protection where no ground exists.
  • We check that the breaker and wire size match the new load.

FAQ

Outlet & Switch Installation — Common Questions

What is the difference between a GFCI and a regular outlet?
A GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) outlet trips in milliseconds if it detects current leaking outside the normal path — for example, through a person. It is required near water and outdoors. A regular outlet has no such protection. We install GFCIs where code requires them and on older circuits for added safety.
Can I replace a two-prong outlet with a three-prong outlet myself?
Only if a proper ground is present at the box. Simply swapping the device gives the appearance of a ground that is not there — which is unsafe and misleading. We either run a ground wire, install a GFCI with a "No Equipment Ground" label, or replace the cable, depending on the situation.
Why do my plugs fall out of the outlet?
The internal contacts in the outlet have worn out and lost tension. This is more than an annoyance — a loose connection can arc and overheat. The outlet should be replaced. We replace worn outlets and use commercial-grade devices for high-use locations.
Can any light be put on a dimmer?
Not every fixture or bulb is dimmable, and not every dimmer works with every bulb type. LED bulbs in particular need a dimmer rated for LED loads. We match the dimmer to the fixture and bulb type to avoid flicker, buzzing, and shortened bulb life.
